Meet the Hairys – Sloppy
And we’re back to the wallpapers! Here’s the fourth Hairy wallpaper, this time featuring Sloppy (click for full resolution):
Sloppy doesn’t have his own world (yet), but he shows up as a supporting character in some of the other worlds, where you’ll have to lead more than one Hairy on some stages.
There’s also a 1024×768 version. In case you missed them, here is the full set, and you can of course read more about the game.
Forest Boss: Chur – Wallpaper
To celebrate the news of the simultaneous iOS/Mac release, here’s a 1280×1024 wallpaper of the first forest boss, Chur (who you may have already seen if you follow us on Twitter). Click on the thumbnail below for the full image.
We’ll return to our regularly scheduled Hairy wallpaper days tomorrow.
Meet the Hairys – Strong
It’s almost October 18! Here’s the third Hairy wallpaper, this time featuring Strong (click for full resolution):
He’ll have to deal with rocks, stone arrows and other desert challenges, such like Mighty Kladovik
In case you missed them, here are Happy and Bold, our last two wallpapers, and you can of course read more about the game.
Meet the Hairys – Bold
Continuing the countdown to our release on October 18, here’s the second Hairy wallpaper showing Bold – the first Hairy you’ll actually meet in the game (click for full resolution):
Yeah, he’s a bit too self-confident for his own good.
Here’s Happy, in case you missed him, and you can of course read more about the game.
Meet the Hairys – Happy
On Hairy Tales, you help guide the Hairys to cleanse their world, but you have no direct control over them. Their curiousity and spontaneity gets the best of them, so you have to drag tiles to re-arrange the stage to make sure you lead them to the gate.
This initially means just moving arrows into place and turning fences to help them carry a magic stone that clears corruption. It quickly gets more complicated, however, and they have to face dangers that require them operating cannons, jumping in and out of teleporting wells and using traps to lure their enemies out of the spots they guard (not to mention, work on the stage as the Hairy runs!).
Chances are that you’ll spend some time puzzling out a level, wondering how to figure it out, while the Hairy patiently waits on his mushroom arrow. We wanted them to have their own personality while they do that, so we have a set of animations that you’ll get to see while you’re working on the level. I won’t spoil them by posting videos here, but I did want to give you a few images showcasing each Hairy’s attitude.
Here’s Happy Hairy:
I plan to add a new one each weekday until our launch date of October 18, so keep checking back, and let me know how you like it!
Hairy Tales Release Date!
Hi!
I’m ecstatic to announce that Hairy Tales will be coming out on the App Store on October 18! To celebrate, we have a new trailer:
We have taken this time to improve the game significantly, including:
- Difficulty curve and tutorial adjustments. Since we had time to do even more playtesting, we have taken player suggestions and expanded on the tutorials for the initial levels.
- Optimizations for older devices – we have reports of the game running well even on an iPhone 3GS.
- Graphic improvements for high end devices – if you have an iPad 3, iPhone 4S or iPhone 5, Hairy Tales will use the extra processing oomph to improve the look.
- An all-new animated introduction! We created an animated intro for the game giving some background into what’s going on (and you can see a few seconds on the video above).
- Plus a host of small changes and tweaks.
Just about two weeks left to go!
iPad gameplay video
Here’s an initial gameplay video of Hairy Tales running on the latest iPad, showing it on the Retina display.
It showcases the tutorials and a few of the tiles from the forest set, as well as the controls and behavior. It focuses on the initial stages, which you can set up and have them run, but also demos a more complex one where you have to react on the fly and change the stage as the Hairy is running.
Welcome to the site
The new Hairy Tales site is live! You can see of the screenshots we have published, as well as reading the initial details about the game on our main page.
We’ll be launching soon on iOS, Windows and OS X. Please leave a note and tell us what you think!
